The Treasure We Overlook

El tesoro que pasamos por alto

A gentle invitation to stop striving and notice that what you most deeply long for is already here, quietly waiting to be recognized.

The Treasure We Overlook

Observing without effort

We observe the mind,
but there's no effort needed.

We do not always have to exercise the will,
as the will can be an obstacle.
We overemphasize the exercising of intention and will.

There is a value of pointless experiencing.

The mind will seem frictional, meaningless, to do nothing.
To do nothing is not nothing.
To do nothing is to open the door to reality.
Like a crack.

And the endless stream of efforting, or being, to shine through.
Being is what you long for.

We run away from that which we long for
and fear and distrust.

Noticing the efforting

Notice the efforting, wanting to direct,
to do,
to get somewhere,
to experience something,
to relax,
to be present.

Your deepest desire is the way.
It is a desire longing beyond the mind.

I propose that it is to be.
We already are.
And that is why it's effortless.

A recognition,
no attainment, no achieving.

Already here

It is in the much repeated words "here and now,"
everywhere and always.

The daydreaming: your being.
The distraction: your being.
The striving and the struggling: your being.

We just overlook the value,
misunderstand,
and we're here to remember.

Every sound,
every sensation,
every thought.

The overlooked treasure

It's said there is a treasure we carry within,
which we overlook.
It is not hidden.
It is not small.

We just don't believe it to be a treasure.
It is too simple.

To trust this treasure would mean
we have been wrong,
searching for the wrong thing.

Searching for something that is not here, not now,
wanting to earn it,
achieve it,
take credit.

And to that we are profoundly attached: to be the one who knows.

And so in this process of remembering the value of being,
we must always be failing
in our attempts of doing.
