A gentle invitation to stop doing and start noticing the awareness that is already here, holding everything you experience.
Meditation is the art of not doing anything.
You could say it's a process of discovery,
a discovery of what already is and not of anything new.
The mind and its states
The mind is all about states, creating and avoiding states.
We're interested in discovering what is.
Where do states appear?
Notice your thinking, the movement of the mind.
There is an essence, a substance, a space.
It's the source of experience, and that is what we long for.
You can find it everywhere:
when there is distraction and thinking,
emotions, storminess.
What is not discomfort
When there's discomfort, how do you identify discomfort?
Something must not be discomfort.
Something must not be mind.
You notice sensations, your body, your breath.
Something must not be body.
Sensations, anything you experience,
something that is, notices experience.
That is what we long for:
to know ourselves as that beingness,
where everything is made of,
where everything comes from.
Not in time, but now.
When you notice time, something must not be in time.
You experience pain; something must not be in pain.
You can't lose this
You can't lose this.
You can't escape this.
You can pretend, play hide and seek,
but your heart is just there:
open, holding, loving,
even when you pretend it's not,
when you act as if it were otherwise,
playing hide and seek.
We love the dance of illusion, getting lost,
so we can find the journey home
and realize home is everything.
There's a beauty and a love in the struggle,
a beauty and a love in the return home.
And you can have the cake and eat it too,
because what you are is the movement and the resting simultaneously.
Always at home, always in the heart.
The deepest choosing
We just need to remember that we were playing,
that our being chooses this.
Not some being out there or God up there.
What is that place in you that chooses it,
in the deepest hardship,
not out of masochism,
but out of a love for life?
It cannot be created or made.
It's not an action or an achievement.
The choice is already there.
It is the creative act of our being.
It is the creative act of the divinity in us,
the only divinity there is.
That is what we long for: to remember,
to discover that as your essence.
Savoring everything
Enjoy the freedom that you have.
Savor everything:
savor tension, boredom, frustration, joy, contraction.
The infinite buffet.
That's what we long for.
Sink into the moment.
Trust the free fall,
a free fall of constant movement,
no ground, no center.
Absolute beingness.
