The Knowing That Is Already Here

El Conocer Que Ya Está Aquí

A gentle exploration of the quiet awareness already present in every sensation, thought, and feeling, waiting to be noticed.

The Knowing That Is Already Here

Let's remember that as a concept, meditation is doing nothing.

And so even as things are happening and we feel we are doing something,
attending the breath or thinking, worrying,
all of that activity,
as it happens, there is something in us that is doing nothing.

So it is less about action to do nothing.
It's more about settling in, recognizing more and more of the time
something that is already still.

This non-doing is not something we can achieve or strive for.
It's already happening.

What is already happening

Breathing happens.
Body stuff happens.
Thought stuff happens.
World moving, shifting, vibrating, experience happens.
Everything we call internal, me stuff, happens.
Everything we call external, not me stuff, happens.

Something knows this.

There is the knowing of sound.
The knowing of sensations.
The knowing of the body and the world.

Following the knowing to its source

Follow that to its source.
Is this knowing somewhere?
Is it everywhere?

You might experience it as that which you call I, me, in here somewhere,
knowing sounds that are out there somewhere.

The knowing of sensations, hands, feet, over there.
Is the knowing really in here somewhere?

Sensation and concept

Bring awareness to just the general sensation of your right hand.
There will be some form of texture, tingly,
maybe warmth or coolness,
just the raw, direct texture of sensation.

And there will likely appear a reflection,
an image,
a concept: hand.

That's not with the sensation of that.
It's in the space of thought.

Just notice those two experiences.
Very subtle difference.

Remain curious,
as if there was a treasure in knowing more intimately
the nature of this experience.

Sensations in the hand.
The concept of a hand.

What is it that knows the experience of the hand?
What is it that knows the concept of the hand?
What is it that knows sounds, sensations?

Sinking into the knowing

By yourself, sink into that knowing.
What is it that knows thoughts?

There are sounds, sensations, thoughts.
Let yourself sink.

Let go of the images and the concepts.
Feel into the voidness that knows everything.
Feeling the voidness that is everything.

That sensations become thin,
that the body and the world become transparent.

Let any discomfort come and go.

Wherever your mind goes,
wherever your attention goes,
there is this voidness.
Nothing solid to hold on to.

Nothing to do,
nothing to not do,
seeing what happens.

The heart

Notice any sense of wanting, desiring.
Follow that to its source, the heart.
Passion.
Let desire be desire.
Make room for the heart.

The sweetness of being,
the heartbreak of loving.
Let it all move and flow.

Right here

Something is already here,
full, present, alive.

You cannot find it.
You cannot go away.
You cannot relate to it.

What we are looking for is right here.
It's in the sensations.
It's in the sounds.
It's in the thoughts and the images,
the memories and feelings.
It's in emotions.
It's in worries.
It's in joys.
It's in frustration.

What is it that is in everything, that's right here?

It's in the sense of time.
It's in the sense of loss.
It's in the sense of loneliness.

All of it is Christ.
All of it is Buddha nature.

Don't think about it.
Just see it.
