A reflection on how the present moment never needed improving, and how the real obstacle is not negative experience but belief itself.
A reflection on how the present moment never needed improving, and how the real obstacle is not negative experience but belief itself.
There is just nothing so wonderful and delicious as that which is this. No matter what is happening. Before, that which is this always had something about it that was not good enough. But that which is this didn't change; only my beliefs about it changed. Or rather, they didn't change so much as they stopped. The problem is beliefs, period. Beliefs about it.
The trap of positive thinking
Positive beliefs don't work either. If I try to sell you positive thinking about the present moment, it becomes very problematic. It is going to be a disaster. So we have to work in the negative sense. What are you experiencing as a problem now? Then we can talk about it and reveal the false beliefs.
Beliefs versus real responsibility
This doesn't exclude the fact that there are things in life we need to do, problems we need to address, things we need to be responsible for. But once we mature enough in that aspect, it will start to become hard for us to avoid noticing something: there is a problem that I cannot address by getting life right.
The dark night of the senses
That is the dark night of the senses. Most people feel into that and bring more energy into the problems of life in order to avoid it, to reinvigorate the search for fulfillment in the senses. A new relationship. A change of work. A change of country. A new this and a new that.
