The teacher discusses how initial tastes of awakening can become something we chase, and how this cycle breaks when we recognize that what we glimpsed was always already the case.

That becomes the background. At first, it can feel like there's a shift, like you've tasted something and now you've lost it. Then you feel you have to do this or that to get it back. We can also get addicted to those tastes, to those shifts. But that addiction will be broken when we realize there is no such shift, because that was always the case. Then we can no longer have that intensity of release, what you might call a spiritual experience.
