One Field

Un Solo Campo

A meditation exploring how everything we experience is perception appearing in awareness, with no solid boundary between inside and outside.

One Field

What if everything is inside, or everything is outside?
What seems to be outside is inside.
What seems to be inside is outside.
No boundaries, one field, one space.

Not as something to think about, but to perceive.
Contemplate the current experience.

The boundary of self

Notice that subtle sense of location in the boundaries of what is me, what is not me.
The boundary is a convention; it's not really there.

Everything is perception: sounds, sight, sensations, objects, universe.
All is perception, appearing in the knowingness of consciousness, awareness.

No need to struggle to keep the boundaries, to protect ideas.

Pleasures come and go, pains come and go, thoughts come and go.
Nothing remains.
No need to control, no possibility to control.
All comes and goes.

And the struggle can give way to play, and fear to creativity.

What you actually know

You hear a sound and interpret there is a thing out there creating a sound.
"I hear the thing creating a sound."
But all you experience is sound, no thing, just sound.

You sense the body, you sense the skin,
and you interpret there is a body out there and "I feel the skin."
But all you know is the sensation.

Eyes open or eyes closed, you see something.
You interpret you see that thing over there,
but all you know is the image.
No evidence of a thing out there.
It's sound, sight, sensation.
No different to a dream at night, where the world appears.

No evidence of time

A thought about tomorrow.
You interpret there's that thing that is real, the day tomorrow coming closer.
All you know is thought, imagination.
No evidence of tomorrow.

You have a thought called memory of yesterday. Childhood.
You interpret: a real thing happened, as real as stones, solid, absolutely real.
But all you know is thoughts, imagination,
all appearing now, in this moment.
No evidence of time or space.
No real evidence of absolute time, absolute space.
Just sensation, perception, thoughts, imagination.

Dropping misinterpretation

It's not a new way of interpreting the world.
It's the dropping of misinterpretation,
staying with what is,
which is one field of changing, moving sensation, perception, thought,
and the knowing of it is all there is.

Some thoughts are imaginations of time.
Some thoughts are people, memories.
Some thoughts are producing fears.
Some are fun, creative, infinite possibilities.
Some sensations pleasurable, some painful.
Cold, sight, sound, sensation, perception, thoughts.
Nothing else.

The idea of I

The core of misinterpretation:
the idea of I, person, here, this body in this place. "I'm dying."
But all you know is sensation, perception, memories, thoughts.
No evidence of being what is experienced.
No evidence of being this body.
No evidence of being only this body, just a belief.
No real evidence of being born. Or dying.

What we call "I" is empty.
Just the knowing, or what appears in this knowing, within this knowing, made from this knowing.
