The Pull Away From This Moment

El impulso de alejarse de este momento

This meditation invites you to notice what pulls your attention away from the present moment and gently feel into the discomfort underneath.

The Pull Away From This Moment

Both the words in the leading and guiding of meditation are often helpful, and in some sense needed, but they're really not important.

The only real instruction is to just sit comfortably,
somewhat still,
not stiff,
and do nothing.

But then often what happens is you can do that for years and years and years, and nothing really changes.
The guiding and the words are helpful in that sense,
to find a way through the mind maze, or the illusions,
to ultimately just see that.

Thoughts are just thoughts

Thoughts are just thoughts.
It's known that they are absolutely harmless,
powerless.

One key aspect of this is how we are attached to thoughts being more than thoughts,
something being more real than that,
more true than that.

That attachment is the doorway, in a sense,
to feel into it, to look into it, to explore the nature of that attachment.
Why is it so alluring, so tempting, that which is just thought?
What is it we do not wish to see or know?

And when you find that, you're free from thought,
free from the entrapment of illusion.

Noticing the pull into thought

And so let's explore that.
Just the attachment to thought,
that energetic pull.

Attachment to the mind.
You can notice your focus, energy, and attention going into the thought space:
images and memories, and imaginations of future and others, life situations,
problems.

Something underneath,
some strategy.
If I engage this, if I figure it out, things will be better.

What makes you pull away from now

So it all comes down to: why is this moment
not just good enough, but more sublime than anything else,
more valuable,
more flavorful than any possible future moment?

What's happening here, what's happening now,
that makes you want to pull away
and into thought?

Don't think about this.
Feel into it.

A flavor of discomfort,
anxiety,
some form of pain or fear or restlessness.
Something that tempts you to pull away from direct sensation,
perception, into thoughts.

Letting attention move freely

Don't push against these energies.
Don't try to control attention.
Just let it go where it goes and notice what's happening.

It's right here. It's right in front of you.
There are sensations, perceptions,
thoughts.

And notice the urge or the pull to move into thoughts, away from perceptions,
sensations.

Don't try to push against it.
Don't try to force attention into the sensations.
Just notice that dynamic.

Tasting what is difficult

It's in the energetic space of sensation,
perception, that it is difficult.
Maybe what is not there.

Is it some discomfort,
tensions,
pain,
or simply uncertainty,
or emptiness?

These aren't questions for thought,
just for feeling into it, savoring the experience,
tasting that which is uncomfortable.

Whatever sensations or flavors are present that are rejected,
they will just be waiting patiently.

And as you taste them,
as you engage with open intimacy and curiosity,
they will shift.

In the pain you will find love.
In the fear you will find freedom,
not by avoiding them.
