The Thin Line Between Surrender and Seeing Through Resistance

The teacher explores the impossibility of truly resisting present experience, and how the sense of an entity that resists is itself only thought.

There is a very fine line, like a thin hair, between two perspectives. One is: "I'm resisting, I need to surrender, I need to accept." The other is: there is absolutely no resisting possible. You cannot resist the appearance of a sound. You can create a lot of thought, engage with a lot of thought while the sound appears, but it does absolutely nothing. It just creates thought. It is just engaging with thought.

The impossibility of resistance

A sensation is appearing. I can engage with thought, but it will do nothing to the sensation appearing, and in fact it will probably create more sensation. So in a sense, it is about seeing what happens when you experience some kind of entity pulling, resisting, and then looking to see what that entity is made of.

Seeing through the resisting entity

In a sense, there has been a seeing that this entity is not real. But when it shows up, you still relate to it as real. You haven't seen through it completely. There is still this temptation to engage with it as if it were some form of non-thought-like entity. But any kind of entity that is experienced in this way is imagined.
