The Knowing Behind Experience

El Conocer Detrás de la Experiencia

A gentle invitation to notice the effortless knowing that is always present behind every sensation, sound, and thought.

The Knowing Behind Experience

The only thing that changes is we allow
a little bit of an effort to remain still.
Everything else is the same.
Nothing changes.

What is overlooked

What is happening, not the content.
More subtle or primary and deeper, overlooked.

There is the reality of experiencing,
but there is the knowing of experience itself.

This is overlooked as we, from a very young age,
just assumed this knowing comes from the body
and that's what I am.

Noticing the knowing

Just notice this knowing.

There is experience.
Something is appearing.
Something has the form of sensations, perceptions,
sounds, colors, thoughts,
but something is appearing.

That it is known at all, that is undeniable.
It cannot be stopped.
It does not begin or end.
There is the deepest reality, the most fundamental.

And notice how, as this fundamental knowing
is normalized, made non-important
at every moment, this moment,
the focus becomes the content, the mind,
the knowing of thought, the knowing as thought.

Notice how the content of experience calls like a magnet,
and just remain aware.
Awareness itself, simple.

Unbothered by the experience itself,
unconcerned with what is happening,
just knowing that this is.

The flow of experience

And those sensations move,
sounds change,
thoughts change,
the flow of experience in perpetual motion.

Notice that nothing of what's happening is fixed,
and the appearance of something fixed is an illusion.
Everything in motion.

Some aspects flow slowly, some aspects flow quickly.
Sensations might move as gentle slow waves
and thoughts can flash quickly.
Nothing is fixed.

Knowing and the known

The sensation is known.
The sensation and the knowing are the same thing.

The sound is known.
The sound and the knowing are the same thing.

The appearance of a separate knower is just a reflection.

The thinking about the experience,
the thought about the sensation,
the thought about the sound,
the name of the sound,
the name of what is perceived.
That name, that concept,
it's just another appearance tangling in the field.

Sensation and thought

The tingling and the notion of feet are not the same.
The tingling is sensation.
The notion of feet is thought.
The notion "my thought" is thought.
Both are known.

Tingling in the hands, sensation.
The notion "my hands," thought.
Both appearing.
Both coming and going,
one a sensation,
the other a reflection in thought.

Effortless knowing

Just falling back into the knowing of experience,
allowing all experiences or content,
all forms to shift and change as they do,
a timeless kaleidoscope.

Just simply knowing, effortless.

If there is a sense of effort, that is not the knowing.
The sense of effort is thoughts and sensations.
The knowing of effort is effortless.
The knowing of struggle is struggle-less and effortless.
The knowing of pain is untouched by pain.

Any sense of resistance is thoughts and sensations.
The knowing of that resistance is total receptiveness, effortlessly.

Resistance needs not to change nor stop.
The absence of resistance is in the knowing,
present here, prior to any experience.

What awareness reflects

It is the same with struggle and suffering,
discomfort, fear.
Those are all appearances
projected by the knowing,
reflected by the knowing,
inseparable from the knowing.

As the knowing,
as awareness,
as consciousness.
As the I am: timeless, spaceless, dimensionless beingness.
