The Sound Is Inside

El Sonido Está Dentro

A gentle exploration of how everything you sense — sound, sight, touch — is arising inside you, not separate from you.

The Sound Is Inside

The mind is complex, so it's like being in a bit of a labyrinth.
The core of it is really simple.

We can approach this by the complexity, addressing everything the mind brings up, which is useful.
You can also go straight to the direct, simple seeing.

What's happening right now

That's always what's happening right now.
It's always about something that's immediate, and a certain kind of subjectivity,
and then there's going to be a movement of thought
which we might not recognize as thought.

We might know it as I, me, here.
It'll be a movement.
Very subtle but constant.
A sense of a subjective view, something here looking at something there.

It's really simple, it's really basic.
What I'm pointing to is nothing hidden.

Turning inward

We say turn inwards.
It's a very subtle noticing of this subjectivity.

So if you keep noticing, gently,
attention to this sense of subject,
this subjectivity, this I.

So basic, so fundamental, we assume it is what it appears to be.

Something in us knows there's more.
There's a dissatisfaction.

Working more closely

When there is dissatisfaction, don't look for experiences and look for problems to solve.
Work more closely now.
What is happening?

A sense of I, here.
Notice the assumption: I am a man, a woman, a person, a human.

Are you willing to consider that you're more than that?
That which is looking, knowing, is more than the body, more than the mind, more than the human.

This is not a philosophical question.
It's about the reality of this experience, what is happening right now.

Inside and outside

There are sounds, sensations.
We see a world.
We assume it's all out there, outside of me.

What if it's all inside?
The sounds I hear are all inside.
The world I see is all inside.

Pay attention to the sound.
Just notice, where is that sound?
Is it appearing and coming from the outside?
Is it located outside?
Outside of where?

Sensation

Sensation. Hands, feet.
We touch the floor with our feet.
We interpret sensation on our skin as inside,
and the idea of the floor is outside,
but it's really only one sensation.

Everything is a reflection

Everything we sense, touch, hear, see is a reflection.

It's saying, hi, if you see me, I'm a part of you.
If you hear me, I'm a part of you.
If you touch me, I'm a part of you.
How could you experience me if I was separate?

The sound is saying, I am here inside.
Listen to that.
Open your heart to that.

Let it be an exploration.
To stop defining what we are.

Very slowly and gently, without interrupting that exploration.
